{How to} Pain-free Earrings for Babies

Pain-free, maintenance-free earrings for babies are as easy as using stickers! #fashion #trendybaby

Earrings might be one of my favorite accessories, especially for little girls. It’s right up there with necklaces, but since Lynley is not quite old enough to wear necklaces without choking herself or giving herself welts from pulling on them, necklaces are out of the picture (except of course her teething necklace)! Earrings are the perfect jewelry item to dress up my precious, bald baby to actually look like a girl.

I’m sure there are so many parents out there who are going to say, “I can’t believe you pierced your baby’s ears.” Well, hold on a second! Lynley wears “earrings” quite often, but she does NOT have pierced ears. In fact, she has endured zero pain to get the beautiful look of pierced ears.

The secret…. STICKERS! Yep, those little rhinestone stickers in the scrapbook section at the craft store make perfect stick-on earrings! Scour the clearance bins at Michael’s, and you may be lucky enough to find a whole package for a dollar.

Lynley’s “earrings” stick on with little effort and last at least a few hours.. They fall off during her naps, but since these stickers are so inexpensive, it doesn’t really matter that they get lost so quickly. I have taken them off before naps before and tried to reuse them, but that is hit or miss.

I can’t tell you the number of compliments that Lynley receives for her little earrings. I had to share our secret, so mamas out there, like me, who are too afraid to pierce baby’s ears can rest easy with stickers for now. Lynley can decide when to pierce her ears when she is a bit older. I personally hope that she waits until she is old enough to understand how to take care of them, so they only have to be pierced once! Stickers are maintenance-free, so it’s a win! I may or may not have also worn stickers on my real pierced ears…

What a nice post, and what a great idea! I do not judge anybody for the decisions that they make. Pierced ears are a part of some cultures. However, I decided that i wasn’t going to make any major body alterations without the permission of the person. It’s her body, not mine. It should be her decision.

With that said, stickers are a great idea. Do they last?

I was searching for my GF’s blog and came across yours. Started reading about the great post about “pain-free” earrings for babies. Making the same discovery for my six month old daughter, I soon became accustomed to how pretty she looked and loved the compliments from other moms who loved how cute she looked with earrings, a.k.a. little stickers. Two funny things happened which pushed me to actually pierce her ears and put real pearl earrings in her pretty little ears.

First, one day, I was wearing my favorite 5mm pearl studs and put some little pearl button stickers on her ears as we went shopping. A mom stopped me to tell in glowing terms how much she loved our matching earrings. Then she said, “…your daughter is missing an earring.” I was actually a bit embarrassed to tell her they were stickers, and said I will be on the lookout for them in her stroller. I didn’t have the heart to tell her they were stickers.

Second, we were invited to one of my husband’s coworkers daughters 1st Birthday party. She was in a cute white dress, pink bows in her hair with large pearl studs peeking through her hair. I didn’t see her initially, since her mother was seated near my husband. However, on that day, things changed in hubby’s mind. As I watched when the little blond haired, blue eyed one year old toddling around as she approached Rick. I could see out of the corner of my eye, suddenly, something caught his attention. He waved his hand and garnering my attention. Smiling wildly, he said, “Her earrings are soO CUTE!” After everyone left while Sandi slept, he said, he wanted Sandi to have earrings too! Clearly, he was smitten and googly-eyed seeing that toddler with pretty pearl studs. I said I was unsure about doing it this early, but knew how pretty she looked with the stickers and said I would ask our pediatrician since I didn’t to hurt her and like thought I would wait till she could care for them.

Well, I asked our ped and to my surprise, she encouraged me to do when she won’t remember it. She said when mommy cares for them, they have fewer problems. When I asked her about pain, she said if they cry, it is because of being restrained or the noise of the piercing instrument near their ears and not any real discomfort. She gave me some tips for moms having their daughter’s ear’s pierced and I took her the next day and we got her pearls to match mommy for real!

Know from your post,” …earrings might be one of my favorite accessories, especially for little girls,” and like me you don’t want to cause her any pain. However, the fact she looks so cute with little stickers has already confirmed your mommy intuition she would look adorable with real little pierced ears.

Drop me an e-mail if you’d like our ped’s ideas for moms.
