Happy birthday to my little pumpkins! Corbin and Lynley are ONE today! We celebrated their first birthday with family and friends yesterday, and our theme was sugar and pumpkin spice. It turned out wonderfully!

We are so thankful for everyone who came out to celebrate with us. Turning one is so bittersweet. I’m incredibly proud of how far they’ve come since their birthday– both weighing in the three pound range and now, they’re almost walking! They’re both sweet, happy babies that love everyone they meet, and that makes me proud of Derrick and myself too!

For this party, I wanted to keep it simple, as I tend to always go a bit overboard. I kept the decor to a minimum, and used photos, banners, tissue paper and balloons. Wait… scratch that. Some of the things we made didn’t even end up on display! Ugh, that’s what happens when you have kids, twins or not. You’re always running late. So, we ran out of time to hang some of the banners and pom pom balls and chalkboards before guests starting to arrive, but we still ended up with a beautiful party!

We also made all of the food and a few of the desserts and ordered cupcakes. Instead of hosting it our house, we held it at the playground in our neighborhood. This was way easier in my opinion because we ended up with almost 40 guests. Our house would’ve been overrun, and this gave the older kids the opportunity to entertain themselves on the slides and monkey bars. We also set up a little craft table for the kids to decorate their own treat bag and stuff it with candy, stickers and bubbles. And, we set up a photo area for fall portraits, you know in case anyone else had to redo their pumpkin patch pictures like us!

Corbin and Lynley loved their cake! It was so much fun watching them grab handfuls and squishing it in their hands. We captured some priceless expressions!

My favorite party decoration is by far the milestones chalkboard. It turned out better than I imagined it would, and it was quite the hit! Well, except with Corbin and Lynley. They were more interested in eating the fallen acorns than the sign… I tweaked the original idea that I found over at this lovely blog.

We’ll have their one year checkup tomorrow, complete with flu shots and vaccinations galore. Will you say a little prayer for them, please?
