Corbin and Lynley were dedicated at church on Sunday, Mother’s Day. I can’t think of a better way to have spent the day than celebrating our faith and our many blessings. So what is a baby dedication?
We, along with several other parents, publicly acknowledged that our children have been entrusted to us by God and promised to raise them according to His will and Truth. We also prayed that they will find salvation through Jesus Christ and accept Him into their lives when the time is right. We promise to nurture their faith and be good examples in their lives of living and loving purely and kindly and through Christ.
We prayed earnestly to God and asked him to bless us with children. Now, we pray for His for grace, wisdom and protection. The story of Hannah in the Bible, is one that I have read and believe all those trying to get pregnant should as well. Hannah prayed: “O LORD Almighty, if You will only look upon Your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget Your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life…” 1 Samuel 1:11
When God blessed Hannah with a child she thanked the Lord: I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of Him. So now I give Him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD.” And she worshiped the LORD there. 1 Samuel 1:26-28
Standing in front our church body and having the support and love from them was very special to us. There’s an old saying that it takes a village to raise a child, and I fully understand that now. Not only do we need to be good examples for our children, but we need to surround ourselves by good people too. We were thankful to be able to share this important day with our parents. Derrick’s parents attended and my stepdad drove in 5 hours to be there, and it meant so much to us. My mom wanted so badly to be there, but she is currently on the opposite side of Texas celebrating the birth of her newest grandchild, my nephew!
